You have been seeing the headlines: the real estate brokerage remax merger, remax acquired by real, real remax group. Here is the short version of what happened. On April 27, 2026, The Real Brokerage Inc. announced it had entered into a definitive agreement to acquire RE/MAX Holdings, the parent company of RE/MAX. On August 24, 2026, the deal closed, and the combined company became Real REMAX Group Inc., trading on NASDAQ as REAX. This post walks through what happened, when it closed, what Real REMAX Group is, and what it means for you as an agent, built only from the companies' own announcements and the reporting that covered them.

The one-line version: Real acquired RE/MAX. The merger closed on August 24, 2026, the combined company is Real REMAX Group Inc. on NASDAQ as REAX, and RE/MAX's franchise network brought approximately 140,000 agents and roughly 8,500 offices into the platform, per industry reporting at the time.

What Happened With the RE/MAX Merger?

In plain terms: REAL acquired RE/MAX. On April 27, 2026, The Real Brokerage Inc. announced it had entered into a definitive agreement to acquire RE/MAX Holdings (NYSE: RMAX), the parent company of RE/MAX and one of the world's leading franchisors of real estate brokerage services, to create a leading technology-enabled global real estate platform, per REAL's official newsroom.

The size of the deal matters for context. The transaction was reported at an implied enterprise value of about $880 million, per HousingWire's reporting.

It is worth slowing down on what that description actually means. RE/MAX is not a single brokerage office you join; it is a franchisor of real estate brokerage services with a brand recognized around the world. The announcement described the combination as creating a leading technology-enabled global real estate platform, meaning REAL's cloud brokerage technology and RE/MAX's global franchise brand would now operate together under one company.

When Did the Merger Close?

The merger closed on August 24, 2026. On that date, the business combination was completed and the combined company became Real REMAX Group Inc. (NASDAQ: REAX), per the completion announcement from Business Wire and REAL's investor newsroom.

Under the terms of the deal, former Real shareholders received one share of common stock in Real REMAX Group for each Real common share they owned after a 10-for-1 share consolidation, and former RE/MAX Holdings stockholders received shares of Real REMAX Group under the merger agreement, per the completion announcement.

What Is Real REMAX Group?

Real REMAX Group is the combined company that now owns both the REAL cloud brokerage platform and the RE/MAX franchise brand. At completion, the combined company reported thousands of offices and more than 140,000 agents worldwide. To put that in context, RE/MAX's franchise network brought approximately 140,000 agents and roughly 8,500 offices worldwide into the combined platform, per industry reporting and coverage of the closing at the time.

What the companies described, from their own announcements, is a leading technology-enabled global real estate platform: REAL's AI-powered cloud brokerage platform combined with RE/MAX's established brand and international office network.

What Does the Merger Mean for Agents?

Stated carefully, without promise: REAL acquired the iconic RE/MAX franchise brand and its global reach, combining REAL's AI-powered cloud brokerage platform with RE/MAX's established brand and international office network. The deal was described by the companies as creating a leading technology-enabled global real estate platform.

Here is what it does not mean, at least not yet. Neither company has announced specific new products, fee changes, or programs. If someone tells you the merger automatically changes your split, your fees, or the tools you use, that is not something either company has announced. The honest approach is to watch what the combined platform actually offers as the integration unfolds, and to ask questions of people who know the details.

A Word From Tory

As a Canadian REALTOR® building my business, this is a big moment for the industry. You have an AI-forward brokerage and a legendary global brand coming together, which is rare in any industry, let alone real estate. For an agent considering a move, it is worth watching what the combined platform offers as it comes together. I am not going to promise you a list of features that have not been announced. What I can tell you honestly is that the size of this story is real, and the question of where you build your career is worth taking seriously.

If you are an agent asking what the remax acquired by real deal means for your own business, start with questions, not decisions. What has actually been announced? What is still unfolding? And if you are considering REAL, you do not have to figure it out alone.
