When agents ask what it is like to work at REAL Brokerage, the conversation starts with two questions: how much of every commission do I keep, and what do I get to own? The 2026 answer, straight from REAL's published structure, is an 85/15 commission split, $0 monthly fees, a $15,000 CAD annual cap in Canada, and stock awards in a company trading on NASDAQ as REAX after the RE/MAX merger closed in August. Here is the full wealth math in plain numbers.

The short version: you keep 85% of every commission dollar until you hit the cap, you keep 100% after it, you pay no monthly fees, and production unlocks REAX equity through stock awards that stack on top of your income.

The 85/15 Split, With No Fine Print

The headline number is the 85/15 commission split. On each transaction, 15% is paid to the company until you reach the annual company cap; otherwise, the agent keeps 85% of each commission, per REAL Brokerage's help centre. Same math on every deal, no renegotiation, no manager approval.

Make it concrete: on a $10,000 commission, you keep $8,500 and $1,500 runs the platform. At a traditional 70/30 desk, the same deal pays you $7,000. That $1,500 gap per deal is why agents searching "switch brokerages" and "best brokerage for agents" keep landing on REAL's structure.

The Fees That Just Aren't There

Old-school brokerages bleed agents dry with desk fees, tech fees, franchise royalties, parking, signage. REAL's answer is $0 monthly fees. No desk fee, no tech fee, no franchise royalty, ever.

For Canadian agents, the full cost picture per REAL Brokerage's Canadian help centre is a $1,200 CAD annual brokerage and risk management fee collected $400 from each of your first three transactions, plus a one-time $249 CAD sign-up fee and a $40 CAD CBR (Compliance and Broker Review) fee per transaction. The US structure runs slightly different, with a $900 annual fee collected $300 per transaction across your first three, per REAL's US help centre. Either way, the bill lands on the deals you already closed, not on your desk every month.

The Cap: The Number That Changes Your Year

Once your 15% contributions hit the annual company cap, you keep 100% of every commission for the rest of your anniversary year. In Canada the cap is $15,000 CAD for solo agents and team leaders, and $7,500 CAD for team members. In the US it is $12,000 and $6,000 respectively. The cap resets on your anniversary date.

The math that matters: at a 15% company share, you hit a $15,000 CAD cap at $100,000 in GCI. Everything after that pays at 100%. The cap is the difference between a good split and a genuinely great year.

The Stock Side: Production You Get to Own

The split pays you for this year. The stock program pays you for the future. REAL is publicly traded, and since August 25, 2026, the combined Real REMAX Group has traded on NASDAQ as REAX, after the ~$880 million acquisition of RE/MAX closed on August 24 and brought together more than 180,000 real estate professionals across 120+ countries and territories, per the official completion announcement. Agents earn equity through programs that stack, per REAL's equity help centre article:

  • The cap stock award: reach your annual cap and you earn a grant of restricted stock units with a three-year vest. You cap, you get equity, no application needed.
  • The Elite production award: as of September 1, 2026, agents who reach Elite status earn $12,000 USD ($15,000 CAD) in RSUs, per REAL's Elite award article. Qualify by hitting your cap and either generating $6,000 USD ($9,000 CAD) in post-cap transaction fees, or closing $500,000+ in GCI across 10 transactions of $1 million or more.
  • The Elite cultural award: Elite agents who teach at Real Academy can earn roughly $8,000 more in RSUs. Helping other agents succeed is literally worth stock.
  • The Stock Purchase Plan: auto-invest a percentage of each net commission into REAX stock, up to $15,000 a year, with bonus grants added after a year. Built-in dollar-cost averaging on the platform you build on.
  • Attraction shares: earn stock awards for bringing agents into REAL, on top of the revenue share that same referral produces.

The Wealth Math: A Worked Year

Let's run the numbers for a typical Ontario agent: 12 deals a year at a $15,000 CAD average commission, for $180,000 in GCI.

Line item Traditional (70/30 + $500/mo desk) REAL (85/15 + $15K CAD cap)
Commission kept $126,000 (70%) $165,000 ($85K pre-cap + $80K post-cap)
Monthly desk fees -$6,000 $0
Annual + per-deal fees Transaction fees on top -$1,680 ($1,200 annual + 12 × $40 CBR)
Net for the year ~$120,000 before extra fees ~$163,320

That is roughly $43,000 more in your pocket every year with the same deal count, before you ever talk about REAX stock, the Elite award, or revenue share. Now add the cap stock award and what you keep after the cap, and the difference compounds.

Why 2026 Is the Moment

The wealth math is only half the story. The platform underneath it just got dramatically bigger: the merger is closed, REAX is on NASDAQ, and the company's third-quarter 2026 results are scheduled for release on November 5. Agents who join now build equity in the combined company while it grows, instead of renting a desk at one that is standing still. That is the difference between earning income and building ownership.
